The first question to be answered is whether you require a decorative frame or a no-frame method of display known as a gallery wrap. These options are explained below:
When choosing a decorative frame you will want to consider your décor and the content of the painting. There are hundreds of frames available, either ready-made or custom sizes with ornate mouldings or in classic and contemporary style. There is no right or wrong way to select a frame however, if you do wish to add a decorative frame and you have limited wall space and want to achieve a high-end appearance suitable for a modern or classically furnished interior, then you should consider a floating or floater frame. A floater frame allows the painting to seemingly "float" inside the frame without touching it. These frames are available in wood and metallic finishes. Many of Franz Kline's paintings are displayed in this way.
